He was born there on 29th July 1847 and he was baptized as Christian Ferdinand. He was the 16th child of Christian Friedrich Scheu, a tailor and the second to the last. He was a half-brother of Ludwig August Scheu, the "Münsterbaumeister in Ulm". Ludwig August was the 4th child, which explains the gap of 17 years between the two births. Ten of the 17 children died in infancy. Parents of Ludwig August Scheu (Künzelsau 1. August 1830 - 7. November1880 Ulm): Christian Friedrich Scheu (Künzelsau 24. May 1797 - 23. January 1850 Künzelsau) married I. on 28. September 1825 at Künzelsau Sophie Christine Auerbach (Künzelsau 17. Juli 1802 - 8. December 1840 Künzelsau) The Auerbachs were a watchmaker family. Parents of Christian Ferdinand Scheu (Künzelsau 29. July 1847 - 09. January 1879 Bradford) Christian Friedrich Scheu (Künzelsau 24. May 1797 - 23. January 1850 Künzelsau) married II. on 20. June 1840 at Künzelsau Susanne Margarethe Wüst (Künzelsau 21. October 1814). She married again after the death of her husband, see the Künzelsau Church Archive Family register I, p. 339 Grandparents of Christian Ferdinand Scheu were: I. Georg Kaspar Scheu of Künzelsau, a shoemaker and Marie Dorothea Ungerer II. Johann Christian Wüst of Künzelsau, a sievemaker and Margarethe Barbara Runkel It is probably possible to go one or two generations further back in the books of the Künzelsau Church Archive which are kept at the Central Protestant church Archive at Stuttgart. Perhaps the archive are already available online. The entry in the Bradford Protestant Church Archive says: SCHEU, Ferdinand Friedrich: born 29. 07.1849 [sic!] in Künzelsau, Wurtemburg; butcher and parish council, living in Bradford from 1867 with 5 children, died 09.11.1879 aged 31 years 5 months 10 days at 152 Leeds Road Bradford, buried at Undercliff Cemetery. So far I don't know whether there are any descendants still living at Künzelsau. It may well be that the following children also emigrated to England (or somewhere else) : No. 3 Sofie Friederike Elise No. 10 Gottlob Wilhelm Josef No. 13 Hermann Wilhelm Christian I attached two photos and a word document of a SHY family who also seem to stem from the Künzelsau Scheu family. Perhaps you can contact them There are also two photos attached showing the two Scheu pages in the Künzelsau Civil Registry which I photographed this afternoon. This morning I will fly to Leeds and stay there (in Rawdon) until Monday 17th. I have my laptop with me and can answer emails. My mobile phone number is 0049-175-6 888 989. Best wishes Karl-Heinz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Scheu, Christian Ferdinand (I615)
